Einar Mattsson Prize Award 2012 to Gunnar Bergman
The prize on SEK 30 000 has been allocated Gunnar Bergman, Senior Scientific Advisor in the Polymeric Group at Swerea KIMAB at the inauguration dinner October 23.
Motivation
Gunnar Bergman has through an outstanding performance developed a new field of research in corrosion, not only within the institute but also internationally, namely a Corrosion approach for polymers.
Gunnar was employed at the Swedish Corrosion Institute by Einar Mattsson in 1981, with the mission to start up a new research area on polymer corrosion. The outcome is excellent with eight researchers in this field at Swerea KIMAB today. This has succeeded due to Gunnar’s talent to solve new problems in a systematic and persistent way, always with the customer benefit in focus. His results have initiated development of new products in our member companies. He has also developed special techniques to evaluate corrosion effects in polymers.
Gunnar’s Corrosion Approach on polymers is now well-known worldwide, and is implemented at e.g. GF Korr (Germany) and EuroCorr.
Gunnar is in an open-handed way supporting the other researchers, gives them courage and knowledge to continue the spirit of engagement.
