Two fully-funded PhD positions in synthetic polymer chemistry, University of Fribourg, Switzerland-1.6.2018

The Kilbinger group (www.kilbinger.net) in the Chemistry Department at the University of Fribourg invites candidates to apply for two fully funded PhD positions in synthetic organic/ polymer chemistry.

The University of Fribourg is situated ca. 30 km southwest of Berne on the main train line that connects Geneva with Zürich in the western part of Switzerland with approximately 10,000 students.

The Faculty of Science at Fribourg University has a strong focus on soft nano-materials. The Kilbinger group within the Department of Chemistry is interested in the synthesis of precision polymers. This includes the development of new polymer synthetic methods for introducing functionality and all aspects of monomer sequence control in synthetic polymers. The research aims at finding synthetic methods that bridge the divide between nature's precisely defined macromolecules and today's synthetic polymers.

The research group is divided into two sections, one working on shape persistent oligomers and polymers based on aromatic amides the other working on mechanistic aspects of controlling end group functionality in ring opening metathesis polymerizations.

Please check our group website http://www.kilbinger.net for more information.

Suitable candidates must have a strong background in mechanistic organic chemistry and polymer chemistry and hold a Master degree in chemistry with very good knowledge of the English language (No IELTS or TOEFL was required)。

The PhD position is fully funded according to the regulations of the Swiss National Science Foundation (http://www.snf.ch/SiteCollectionDocuments/Annex_XII_Ausfuehrungsreglement_Beitragsreglement_E.pdf)

Funding is available from 1.6.2018 for a total duration of four years.

The PhD projects are thematically situated within the framework of the “NCCR Bioinspired Materials” (http://bioinspired-materials.ch), generously funded and provide the opportunity to work within an international and interdisciplinary environment.

To apply, please send a full CV, letter of motivation and names of two members of faculty who would be prepared to send reference letters via email to andreas.kilbinger@unifr.ch until 15.1.2018. Screening of candidates will start on 15.1.2018, late applications will also be considered.

The applicants with China Scholarship Council(CSC) will be welcomed all the time.
